Design Center
Design Center is a highly selective, internship-level class for Michigan State University upperclassmen. Below are the different projects I completed throughout the semester for several different clients.
Mid-SURE Program Book Cover
This cover design was chosen by the client from a total of 7 different concepts. Mid-SURE is a nationwide undergraduate research forum for students displaying work that covers various topics of research. This concept involves a Tetris-inspired composition because no matter what shape, size, or color the building blocks are, they fit together, which highlights the diversity of Mid-SURE.

-
The type interacts with the blocks, making it a puzzle for the viewer to solve.

-
This retro color palette is bright and inviting to celebrate the different perspectives in attendance at the event.

-
Dynamic composition that activates the implied grid in a unique, yet legible way.

AIGS Logo
The client was looking for a logo design for their nonprofit organization, the American Indian Genealogical Society. During the project brief, the client emphasized themes of genealogy, celestial imagery, familial connection, and Native American traditional symbols.
-
Icon represents a double helix wearing the wings of a Thunderbird, meshing the themes of genealogy and prominent Native American Symbols.

-
New icon represents the strength, power and wisdom within one’s own DNA and ancestral history.

-
Colors (red, green, blue) were as requested by client, and strategically placed to emphasize the DNA strands within the double helix.

MFA Catalog Cover + Spreads
This publication design project was for Michigan State University's MFA exhibition catalog.
-
Handmade type for "MFA" utilizing vertical stripes that seamlessly align with the pattern.

-
Bright accent colors of pink and green against a gray background were chosen to stand out in the vast gallery space.

-
Logos displayed in black to follow brand guidelines and maintain professionalism.

This catalog featured five artists, each with a type spread for their artist statement and an image spread to sample their work. I developed a pagination system in the top left corner of the type spreads that would indicate to the reader which artist they are at in the catalog. The five vertical lines reference the handmade type on the cover as well as the five artists. The single gray line indicated where the reader is in the catalog out of five. In the above example, they are at the second artist.
